The mission of the professional practice of Patricia Carroll RN,C, CEN, RRT, MS, as demonstrated here at www.patcarroll.net, is to enhance the health and care of people with a variety of illnesses throughout the US and around the world.

This is accomplished by:

Administering direct patient care as a registered nurse and registered respiratory therapist
Writing articles, books and Web content for both clinicians and healthcare consumers
Providing education in a variety of formats to clinicians, healthcare consumers, and representatives of healthcare companies        
Consulting with healthcare companies to develop educational programs, sales training, and market research for new and existing products.

Pat Carroll is both a registered nurse and registered respiratory therapist. She has twenty-five years of clinical experience as an RRT and RN in adult, pediatric, and neonatal critical care; med-surg; general and high-tech home care; and emergency care. She has most recently spent 12 years as an ER nurse; now she is shifting her focus to starting a free health clinic in the homeless shelter in her community. 

Pat has published more than 100 articles in the professional literature. She has won ten writing awards for her work. Her first book, the Surgical Nurse's Managed Care Manual won the prestigious AJN Book of the Year award in 1999. She has been a respected columnist at www.nurses.com.  She has also written for the consumer press and is a lead writer for the innovative, self-care focused consumer web site LifeMasters Online.  She is currently a columnist for Best Practices in Emergency Services

In 1986, Pat founded Educational Medical Consultants. She has presented more than 200 lectures nationwide to more than 15,000 health professionals. She has been a featured speaker at national conventions for registered nurses, respiratory care professionals, radiologic technologists, biomedical engineers, and medical writers at AACN, ENA, NANN, AARC, ASRT, AAMI, AMWA, and dozens of regional meetings. Pat's real-world experience as a clinician, educator and manager, coupled with her lively, dynamic presentation style makes her a sought-after speaker for professionals in a variety of healthcare disciplines. 

In addition to her professional continuing education activities, Pat works in a variety of media. She has written and produced more than 25 instructional videos for medical manufacturers and publishers. She has received 5 awards for outstanding achievement in instructional video, including two prestigious FREDDIE awards. She was content developer for a series of interactive case-study CDs designed to teach nurses critical thinking skills, and is currently working on a Web-based educational program for one of her clients for a target audience of registered nurses.
